Netflix has cancelled Marvel’s Luke Cage

Coming off the heels of last week's IRON FIRST cancellation is the sudden and abrupt news that LUKE CAGE is also getting the ax. A show that debuted to much excitement back in 2016, it came as a surprise when Netfix and Marvel released their joint statement about the the hero for hire getting the boot. Unfortunately for fans of the series, there will be no season three.

Here's the statement:

“Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s LUKE CAGE will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series."

As of now, only two Defenders are still left standing — Jessica Jones and Daredevil. Along with the Punisher, the characters face a new threat of extinction which felt impossible only a few years ago. It seems as though the once strong bond between Marvel and Netflix may now be startng to show signs of deterioration, but the real shame here is losing a television show about the first black superhero.

Showrunner Cheo Hoadari Coker shared a touching sentiment on his Twitter page.

No word has been uttered yet about the possibility of LUKE CAGE coming back to life via Disney's upcoming streaming platform. However, there's always a chance that Harlem's Hero could reappear amongst Marvel favorites Loki and Scarlet Witch, whose spin-off series are already announced and in the pipeline.

In the meantime, the brains behind the show are looking to the future, as they posted the following image on LUKE CAGE's official Twitter account.
