Netflix comes to the rescue and revives Lucifer for a fourth season

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Although it can be confusing and costly to juggle the growing number of streaming services out there, they do provide potential homes for cancelled shows, and we've seen several series get resurrected in this manner over the years. The latest series to be brought back from the brink is Lucifer, a Fox series which follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the bored and unhappy Lord of Hell who resigns his throne and ends up running a nightclub in Los Angeles where he becomes a consultant with the LAPD, as you do. I've never watched the series myself, but Lucifer obviously has quite the devoted fan-base who began campaigning immediately following its cancellation last month.

That campaign has paid off as it's been announced that Netflix has made a deal which will bring Lucifer back for a fourth season. Deadline reports that several parties were interested in the series, including Amazon, but it took some time to iron out the details as the US SVOD rights to the first three seasons are owned by Hulu. The series was also carried by different networks/platforms across various international markets, further complicating the deal, but it arrived just in the nick of time as the options on the Lucifer cast were about to expire at the end of the day. Cutting it a little close. Upon its cancellation, Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson apologized to fans, saying that they created a huge cliffhanger to ensure that Fox wouldn't cancel them. "Instead, we’re going to frustrate the hell out of you fans. I’m so sorry for that," Henderson said. Thankfully, Lucifer fans will now get to see how that cliffhanger will be resolved.

The cast and crew took to Twitter to celebrate the news.

Are you pleased to see Lucifer revived by Netflix?
