Netflix looking to acquire Amy Adams’ The Woman in the Window from Disney

When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, they also inherited a number of projects in various stages of development, including THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, an adaptation of the best-selling novel by A.J. Finn which stars Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) and was directed by Joe Wright (THE DARKEST HOUR). The film was the final project to emerge from Elizabeth Gabler's Fox 2000 division, but it seems that THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW is a little too adult for Disney to keep around.

According to Deadline, Netflix is in the midst of finalizing a deal to acquire THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW from the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios. THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW stars Amy Adams as Dr. Anna Fox, an agoraphobic child psychologist who witnesses a crime while spying on her neighbours. The film also stars Julianne Moore (KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE), Gary Oldman (HUNTER KILLER), Brian Tyree Henry (JOKER), Wyatt Russell (OVERLORD), Jennifer Jason Leigh (THE HATEFUL EIGHT), and Anthony Mackie (AVENGERS: ENDGAME). Although THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW is complete, it's not clear just when Netflix would release the film once they have it.

The official synopsis for THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW:

In “The Woman in the Window,” a psychological suspense thriller directed by Joe Wright, an agoraphobic child psychologist befriends a neighbor across the street from her New York City brownstone, only to see her own life turned upside down when the woman disappears and she suspects foul play. A stellar ensemble cast brings Tracy Letts’ screenplay based on the gripping, best-selling novel to life, where shocking secrets are revealed, and no one—and nothing—is what it seems.

Amy Adams has several projects on her slate; in addition to THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, Adams also stars in HILLBILLY ELEGY from Ron Howard (SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY), which is a modern exploration of the American Dream following three generations of an Appalachian family. The actress will also be seen as Lois Lane once again in Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE, which will debut on HBO Max next year.
