Netflix picks up Daredevil for a second season with new showrunners

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I've yet watch Netflix's Daredevil series but, as the show's reception around these parts has been pretty favourable, that's something I plan to remedy. Those of you who have already gone through the thirteen-episode debut season will no doubt be pleased to know that Netflix has just renewed Daredevil for a second season which will premiere in 2016.

I was under the impression that we wouldn't be seeing Daredevil again until after A.K.A Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the Defenders mini-series had aired, but I suppose that plan has changed; good news for those who didn't want to wait. However the show will not be returning without a few changes behind the scenes as it seems that Steven S. DeKnight is bowing out as show-runner and that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be stepping in to replace him. Steven S. DeKnight was himself a replacement, having taken over from creator Drew Goddard who had to leave to work on his Sinister Six film.

DeKnight cited previous commitments as his reason for not returning:

While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.

In addition to more Daredevil, we can look forward to Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones, which will be coming to Netflix later this year, and Marvel's Luke Cage which will also see its debut in 2016. Don't forget to check out Alex Maidy's ongoing reviews of Daredevil right here!

What, or whom, do you hope to see in Daredevil's second season?
