We're ten days away from the premiere of the second season of the Netflix series You, and the chances of the show getting a third season are already looking pretty good. Just in case a third season does happen, the companies behind the show applied for a California tax credit – and it has now been announced that You has received a $7.213 million tax credit if a third season is made and filmed in California.
According to Deadline, Netflix heads usually wait to look over "at least a month of viewing data before they make renewal decisions on a show." That means they probably won't decide whether or not to order a third season of You until maybe February, but the tax credit will almost certainly make the option more enticing. The fact that a tax credit was even applied for is already a good sign, indicating that executives feel confident that a third season will happen.
Given that over 40 million Netflix subscribers watched the first season of You, keeping the show going for a while would seem to be an obvious choice.

Joe Goldberg, a New York bookstore manager and serial killer (Penn Badgley) who falls in love with a customer/aspiring writer named Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and becomes immediately infatuated with her. To feed his toxic obsession, he uses social media and other technology to track her presence and remove obstacles to their romance. It featured Luca Padovan, Zach Cherry, and Shay Mitchell in supporting roles.
Badgley is back for the second season, which is reportedly inspired by the Kepnes novel Hidden Bodies. (You can get that one HERE.)
In the second season, Joe Goldberg heads out to Los Angeles, where he becomes infatuated with a woman named Love Quinn (played by Victoria Pedretti).
Other cast members include James Scully as Love's entitled brother Forty Quinn; Jenna Ortega as Joe's precocious new neighbor Ellie; Carmela Zumbado as Joe's landlord / Ellie's sister Delilah; and Ambyr Childers as Joe's ex Candace.
I watched and (at least up until the final moments of the last episode) enjoyed the first season of You, so I will definitely be checking out season 2, and will likely watch a third season if it happens.
You season 2 will be released through the Netflix streaming service on December 26th.
