Netflix signs a four picture deal with The Duplass Brothers

Netflix has announced that they've signed the American independent filmmaking duo, Jay and Mark Duplass, to a four picture deal for the popular streaming platform. As per the deal, the creatives behind such films as THE ONE I LOVE, THE OVERNIGHT, and JEFF WHO LIVES AT HOME will first ready a film for release later this year with Ray Romano to star. The upcoming film will center on a bittersweet bromance and feature themes of friendship, mortality, and made-up sports. The film, which stars Mark Duplass and Romano, recently wrapped production. The yet-to-be-titled Romano project will be directed by Alex Lehmann, who also helmed the Duplass Brother's project BLUE JAY, which he co-wrote with Mark Duplass.

Recently, Ian Bricke, director of independent film at Netflix commented on bringing the brothers on board by saying, “Jay and Mark are the most enterprising filmmakers in the business.  They have embraced Netflix as much as our subscribers have embraced their films.  Having worked with Mark and Jay for over a decade,  we have huge admiration for their creative passion and filmmaking smarts.  We are thrilled for this next chapter of our relationship.”

To which Jay and Mark Duplass replied, “Turns out when you make films for Netflix, millions of people all over the world watch them. This is not a terrible thing for an independent filmmaker. As Netflix continues to grow and develop new ways to reach viewers, we couldn’t be more thrilled to grow our partnership.”

Previously in 2015, Netflix signed a SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) deal with the brotherly duo that included BLUE JAY, TAKE ME, CREEP 2, and the upcoming DUCK BUTTER and OUTSIDE IN projects. The Duplass Brothers also executive produced Netflix’s upcoming documentary series WILD WILD COUNTRY.

We'll be sure to share more information with you all as the other Duplass Brothers projects for Netflix are revealed.
