Never go in the water again – Jaws to return to cinemas as the first in Cinemark’s Fall Classics Series playing this August and September

If you forgot what terror was like… it’s back. Again.

Even if its being driven by a studio/company’s desire to make loads and loads of cash, or even just a bit more cash than they previously had, the decision to release restored versions of classic films in cinemas is something I’ll always enthusiastically support with my cash.  And for those of you who agree, Cinemark has a rather spectactular series of opportunies coming up that will drain you wallet dry.

As per the press release: [Cinemark] is pleased to announce that the Steven Spielberg iconic blockbuster, JAWS, will kick off their “Fall Classics Series” in over 150 Cinemark theatres across the country… As part of Universal Pictures’ ongoing 100th Anniversary celebration, JAWS was one of 13 classic Universal films to be digitally remastered and fully restored from 35mm original film elements. Over the course of several months, skilled technicians worked with Steven Spielberg to meticulously balance color, remove dirt and scratches, and repair any damage to the film elements shot by shot and frame by frame. “JAWS is one of the most influential pictures in Hollywood history and changed the landscape of how movies are released,” stated James Meredith, VP of Marketing & Communications for Cinemark. “With this incredible restoration, fans now have the opportunity to see one of Hollywood’s legendary films in crystal clear digital projection and incredible surround sound. Some of our locations will be featuring these titles on our Cinemark XD Extreme Digital Cinema screen!”

Reading that last sentence, I imagine it was some marketing person’s first impulse to put upwards of five exclamation points after “Extreme Digitial Cinema screen,” and I for one am very glad that they did not do so.  That being said, I’m still very much excited.  You can catch JAWS at 2 and 7 pm on August 23rd – head on over to Cinemark’s site to purchase tickets.

In other news: besides JAWS, Cinemark has five other absolutely classic films that it will be showing for a single day.  They are, in order of release date:

HIGH NOON (1952) Not Rated: August 30th
DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (1965) Rated PG-13: September 6th
CHINATOWN (1974) Rated R: September 13th
