If you were to ask me the sole horror flick I anticipate most this year, I’d be hard-pressed to go anywhere else but Lars Von Trier’s ANTICHRIST.
The polemic new picture from the Danish auteur is catching a flurry of buzz after various festival screenings (including the Best Actress award at Cannes for Charlotte Gainsbourg, who is shown below) and a torrid word of mouth treatment.
The plotline, if you’re not familiar, deals with a grieving couple who retreat to the woods to find a little solace. Only there, they discover something sinister in nature that subsumes their every emotion. It’s said to be a hard, unflinching film that cuts right to the bone basic human fears. And with Willem Dafoe costarring, there’s no doubt the film is exceptionally played.
