New details on Bryan Cranston’s role as Zordon in Power Rangers

Last week we learned that Bryan Cranston has been cast as POWER RANGERS leader/mentor Zordon in the upcoming feature film reboot from Lionsgate and director Dean Israelite, and the actor shared some info on his role during a conversation with ET. Cranston said in addition to voicing Zordon, he'll also be providing motion capture for the character.

It's motion capture, and it's a lot of CGI-work. The tenant of that storyline is that this a real person who is trapped in this etherworld and it becomes this in-the-wall so to speak of [the command center]. He still has a heart and mind, but an agenda that he's got to get these five Power Rangers to defend the earth or else everyone they know will be killed.

Cranston, who is out promoting his new crime drama THE INFILTRATOR, also explained why he decided to return to the franchise in a different interview with Nuke The Fridge.

Yeah… I did voices. Dubbing voices for POWER RANGERS the series 35 years ago. But I can tell you… I would NOT have accepted the role if it was not for the script being so good. They have completely changed the tone. It is not the television series at all. It’s a fully realized updated reimagined approach to telling this SUPERHERO story. I haven’t done a superhero story and I was intrigued. I think this sounds interesting. Let’s try it!

I've never really been a POWER RANGERS fan, but I'm really digging the new costumes, and I'm more than a little curious to see what Israelite and company have done with the reboot.

Cranston's THE INFILTRATOR opens on July 13, 2016, while POWER RANGERS has been scheduled to hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
