New details on Friday the 13th TV series emerge; The CW interested

Back in April of last year we learned that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment had set a deal to produce a new hour-long dramatic series based upon the characters and settings of FRIDAY THE 13th with the original film's director, Sean S. Cunningham, executive producing. As details began to trickle in over the days that followed that announcement we learned a little more about what to expect, with many of the details coming straight from Cunningham himself. Things have been quiet on this project for some time, but that all changed this past weekend as Fridaythe13thFranchise shared some new info regarding the series and possible interest from a network. Read on!

Sean and other franchise alumni attended the Monster Mania convention in New Jersey over the weekend and while talking during a Q&A during the event, Cunningham offered up some new information about the plot of the show and also stated that there has already been some interest from a network, with the site sharing…

"Sean Cunningham confirmed interest from the CW in regards to pickup for the tv show. According to him, the basic premise focuses on the REAL city of Crystal Lake, and the effect that the serialized films had on its real life counterpart. This allows them to reimagine Jason in a more grounded reality, as the films would be based off the real life killings that tool place at the Camp. (ie, both the Hockey Masked Jason and a more serious backwoods inspired killer will be making appearances throughout) "

Sounds like a very meta approach! I dig it and hope to see where they can go with the story in a weekly series.

It seems we're getting ever closer to seeing this series become a reality. And let's not forget that we also have a new FRIDAY THE 13th film heading our way, as well. Bring it on!

More on all things FRIDAY THE 13TH as we hear it!
