New images and plot details for Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Several new stills from DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES have surfaced online, as well as some comments from director Matt Reeves and actor Andy Serkis on the upcoming film. They revealed a few new details about their movie to USA Today, including how the notion of family will play a big part in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

Check them out:

Andy Serkis on Caesar: "We see him as a statesman and a leader and someone who has galvanized all of these apes. We see the beginning of their world." Matt Reeves talking about Caesar's face: "You can see a real haunted quality."

Andy Serkis: "Caesar's ethos is that apes do not like guns. He's trying to find a peaceful accord with the humans who show up. He's an empathetic character."

Matt Reeves: "In this story we are dealing with the razor's edge of peace. Caesar struggles with the question of peace and how do you act as a father and a leader."

"Koba (Toby Kebbell) has a strong hatred for humans after his time in captivity, but he respects Caesar's leadership."

Matt Reeves: "The big question of the story is can they coexist?"

Matt Reeves: "All of the apes follow Caesar with tremendous allegiance and respect."

Andy Serkis: "The film centers around the notion of family. It's the survival of family and what lengths you will go to in order to protect them."

Matt Reeves: "We all know it doesn't become 'Planet of the Humans and Apes,' it becomes 'Planet of the Apes.' But this is that one moment where there is hope for the humans."

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES looks like it's going to be a dark, but exciting flick, and I can't wait to check it out. I might be more excited for other big films being released this summer, however the two I'm the most curious about is Matt Reeves' new movie and GODZILLA. Matt Reeves will be back to direct a third PLANET OF THE APES flick, and I'm very interested in seeing what he has in store for us with the second film.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES will open on July 11th, 2014.
