New Kickstarter campaign could revive Mystery Science Theater 3000

For awhile now, fans of the cult hit MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 have been wondering and hoping what it might take for their beloved series to make a return in this age of revivals and they now have received their answer – a bit of their hard-earned money and plenty of support.

Shout Factory has announced that they’ve purchased MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 from Best Brains Inc., and taken over ownership of the proprietary rights to the franchise, including brand assets and global intellectual property, and together with series creator Joel Hodgson they have launched a Kickstarter campaign with the hopes of raising the funding for a new 12-episode season.

$5.5 million is their target goal, but they’ll settle for at least $2 million in order to make three fresh episodes. Each $1.1 million they raise after that will lead to three more episodes until they reach their dream of knocking out all 12.

As usual, there are a number of perks if you contribute to go along with the satisfaction of knowing you did your part to help bring MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 back, so, if you were ever a fan of the show and desired more after it was eventually cancelled back in 1999, here’s your chance to make it happen.
