New Line developing The Conjuring sequel

According to Variety, it looks like New Line is already eyeing a sequel to James Wan's THE CONJURING which should be a huge hit this weekend. New Line is currently exploring a potential franchise based around the Warrens' investigations, which have involved cases that have already made their way to the big screen like THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT.

THE CONJURING writers Carey and Chad Hayes are on board as writers for the sequel who interviewed Lorraine Warren extensively as part of bringing the script to life. No director has been named just yet but it's unlikely we would be seeing Wan take the helm as he is currently getting ready for FAST & FURIOUS 7. At the end of the day it all comes down to how well THE CONJURING performs at the box office – with all of the incredibly positive reviews and test screenings, I'd say that the film is going to do just fine. Time will tell folks!

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, "The Conjuring" tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

THE CONJURING stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland and Mackenzie Foy. Look for it in theaters on July 19th!
