New Line Cinema closed a deal on Friday night for THE WATCHING HOUR. The horror spec script is described as a home invasion film with aliens. The feature will be produced by Mary Parent and Michael Connolly of Mad Hatter Entertainment (HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON).
The script was written by Carey and Shane Van Dyke, the grandsons of the legendary Dick Van Dyke. The pair have spent most of their career working on cheesy junk for The Asylum. Shane wrote, directed and starred in TITANIC II and PARANORMAL ENTITY, and with Carey co-wrote THE DAY THE EARTH STOPPED and STREET RACER.
No other details on THE WATCHING HOUR are available right now, but hopefully it’s better than the Van Dyke’s track record would suggest. The alien home invasion aspect brings to mind SIGNS, but the world doesn’t need another one of those.
