Remember back in November when word came in that New Line was making a movie out of RAMPAGE, the 80s videogame about a bunch of building-bashing beasties? Well, that shite has finally found a scribe!
THR claims newcomer Ryan Engle has been hired by New Line to pen RAMPAGE for the big-screen. With few credits to his name, it was the blacklisted ON A CLEAR DAY, since being developed to direct by Jaume Collet-Serra (ORPHAN), that won Engle acclaim around town in the last year or so. Here’s what he’s set to adapt with RAMPAGE:
The concept of the game revolves around a trio of mild-mannered humans who are mutated into a giant Godzilla-like lizard, a werewolf and a gorilla, respectively, and fight the military while destroying buildings. Players controlled the monsters and moved up levels when a city was destroyed.
RAPMAGE is being taken very seriously for its otherwise silly source material. It’s being fashioned as an INDEPENDENCE DAY type tentpole, though with a more economic budget. No director has been attached, but producer John Rickard will surely assign one shortly.
Until he does, has your opinion on a RAMPAGE movie altered since it was first announced? You down with it being written by this Engle cat? Who should direct?
