New photos tease the mid-season return of The Walking Dead

The whole Walking Dead phenomenon leaves me feeling somewhat ambivalent, but somehow, I keep coming back for more. The series entered its seventh season with a bang, or a thud, depending on who you talk to, but the episodes which followed found the series' ratings declining for the first time in years as fans jumped ship. The first half of the seventh season wrapped up on December 11th, but we're now less than a month away from rejoining Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company in their battle against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his Saviors.

Entertainment Weekly got their hands on several photos from the remainder of The Walking Dead's seventh season, so let's take a look! What will they contain? Walking, talking and zombies is my guess.

This fellow has certainly seen better days, and executive producer Greg Nicotero teases that the second half of season seven will feature one of the "most ingenious walkers" they've ever designed. "It’s something that we’ve never done before," said Nicotero. "The minute that you see it, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about."

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple teased this new mystery character (perhaps the owner of those distinctive boots?) by saying that "Rick is going to meet this person and/or persons pretty quickly. The answers are just around the heap. I cannot wait for people to meet this character and to see this actor. There is some formidable fun coming up."

The second half of The Walking Dead's seventh season returns to AMC on February 12, 2017.
