New R-rated Spawn movie will be dark and nasty

While SPAWN creator Todd McFarlane has been trying to get a new live-action version of SPAWN off the ground for what seems like forever now (you can check out news articles about this topic RIGHT OVER HERE) I’m thinking in this new day and age of R-rated comic book adaptations, it might just happen.

And what better time to be honest? I mean if we are ever going to get a new SPAWN movie, it HAS to be rated-R. We got our PG-13 SPAWN back in 1997 with Michael Jai White, Martin Sheen, Melinda Clarke (see below), and John Leguizamo, but if that movie proved anything, it’s that SPAWN needs to be R-rated.

Well it seems that Todd McFarlane feels the same way. Recently he was speaking at the Emerald City Comicon and let loose this bit of info:

Listen, I’m going to paint it for you. The movie is going to be a dark R…If here’s PG-13 and here’s Deadpool and here’s Logan, we’re going to be here. It’s going to be dark. It’s going to be nasty.

Sounds good to me, Todd.

Like I said, while I would see a/the new SPAWN movie even if it was rated-G for “strong cuddling”, I am really looking forward to a hard-R cut. I remember reading SPAWN for the first time on a field trip once in my childhood and that sh*t fucked up my whole weekend away.

Let’s do that to some other stupid kid(s) in movie form. Pass the gift of SPAWN on.
