New Ratings Announced

With the question of how the MPAA works in question, especially lately with the great documentary THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED out on DVD, and the flack they’re receiving about rating movies like THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN the same as HOSTEL, it comes to little – yet quite a bit – of a surprise about the ratings HATCHET and TEETH both recieved this week.

According to BOX OFFICE MOJO, both films were recently rated. TEETH, about a killer vagina, recieved an R rating for disturbing sequences involving sexuality and violence, language and some drug use, while the slasher flick HATCHET recieved the dreaded NC-17 for extreme violence and gore. No language, drug use or sexual situations, just extreme violence and gore. Sounds like my kind of flick! Unfortunately, they will have to go back to the cutting board and tone it down to pass with an R rating- as it was also noted that they plan on appealing the rating decision. Oh well… at least there’s the UnRated DVD to look forward to!

Not that I think a killer vagina movie should be rated harder than a slasher movie, but this just makes me pause, and further backs up the notion that the MPAA is a bunch of cracker-ass-crackers. Eloquent, I know, but it’s the truth. Hopefully HATCHET will be able to appeal the rating and get the hard R rating they so rightly deserve, but it won’t be without making some cuts… let’s just hope not TOO many cuts.

Also to note that 28 WEEKS LATER was rated last week, with that sweet R rating for strong violence and gore, language and some sexuality/nudity. So pretty much, it has all the stuff we’re looking for in a movie! Nice! Stick around for more on the HATCHET appeal with the MPAA, and be sure to watch for both flicks hitting theaters later this year.

Thanks to LEWISH for the heads up!
