New Rogue One character posters released!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Damn, there sure are a lot of character posters for Disney's new ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY. I mean, I guess it makes sense – stealing the Death Star plans wouldn't be easy, and you probably couldn't do it alone (unless you're Kyle Katarn. But alas…) Anyway, here you go, have a look for yourself:

I mean, the posters are decent, and definitely get the job done (having the Death Star plans superimposed on their faces is a nice touch), but that's about it. However, they do evoke a darker tone to STAR WARS, so hopefully that translates into the film itself.

As for me, I'm excited and weary of ROGUE ONE in equal measure. On the one hand, I love the idea of a gritty war film with no Jedi in it, which instead focuses on a rag-tag team of people on a desperate mission from whom we have no idea if they will survive or not. On the other hand, the news of massive re-shoots, and the rumor that it's due to making the tone lighter and more in line with what "STAR WARS should be", worries me. I could be wrong (Marvel films go through a similiar process, and re-shoots aren't inherently bad), but if it's an issue of tone and the fear of going all-out with the grittiness of war (and trying to make it more adventurous) would be a missed opportunity, and supremely disappointing if true. So my hope is that it retains its initial spirit (and doesn't become some weird hybrid of sensibilities like SUICIDE SQUAD or the FANTASTIC FOUR reboot). But we'll see when it comes out.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY will blast into theaters December 16th, 2016.
