New Scream movie in development from directors of Ready or Not

Wes Craven's SCREAM franchise is a hell of a lot of bloody fun, and there have been rumblings a fifth installment of the series since the release of SCREAM 4 back in 2011. Aside from the TV series from MTV, there hasn't been much movement on the Ghostface front, but months ago it was reported by Bloody Disgusting that Spyglass Media Group were in the early stages of developing another SCREAM film.

According to Discussing Film (later confirmed by THR), the SCREAM project seems to be moving forward as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed READY OR NOT, have stepped in to helm the new SCREAM movie. Kevin Williamson, who wrote three of the four SCREAM movies, is onboard as an executive producer. Discussing Film states that the new film will "follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes" and is looking to kick off production in May, but it's probably best to take that with a grain of salt for now until more details emerge. It's not known whether the film will serve as a reboot of the franchise, or if it will follow the continuity of the previous movies, but I could certainly see them going the legecy-quel route with a largely new cast supported by a few members of the original films.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's READY OR NOT received largely positive reviews from critics, including from our own Chris Bumbray, and starred Samara Weaving as a newlywed who finds herself hunted by her spouse's family as part of their wedding night ritual. Getting back to SCREAM, although I'm open to a new interpretation of the franchise, I must admit that I lost much of my interest in the project following the death of Wes Craven, but maybe it is finally time to bring Ghostface back properly.

What do you folks think? Are you open to another installment of the SCREAM franchise?
