Empire Online has just premiered a brand new trailer for Michael Håfström’s Vatican-set spookster THE RITE, and boy does it ever highlight the exorbitant menace of Sir Anthony Hopkins. About 20 seconds longer than the first trailer we saw for the film, I think my favorite part here is the doddering hand Hopkins lays on that poor girl’s face. Keep an eye out for that shite around the 1:50 mark!
In what will surely amount to Hopkins being the devil-masquerading-as-priest, THE RITE centers on a disillusioned American seminary student (Colin O’Donoghue) who attends exorcism school at the Vatican and ultimately finds his faith through encounters with demonic forces. Hopkins will play a priest who is an expert in exorcisms and whose methods are not necessarily traditional.
Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, Rutger Hauer, Torrey DeVitto, Chris Marquette, Toby Jones, Maria Grazia Cucinotta (below) and Rosa Pianeta help round out the cast.
THE RITE comes to the masses January 28th.
