New trailer for The Double starring Jesse Eisenberg is both cool and strange

Comedian/director Richard Ayoade debuted his latest film, THE DOUBLE, at TIFF last year, which received high marks, both for the direction and for star Jesse Eisenberg's performance (our review here). We got our first trailer for the film way back in September, but now the film is gearing up for a limited release this spring and we have another look at the film with a really cool, strange trailer that tells the tale of "two snakes" and is chock full of noirish imagery.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite — confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

Obviously, Eisenberg is the talk of the town now as he is set to step into the role of Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, but it's performances like these that certainly informed the powers that be to consider the usually awkward and comedic actor for such a big role and I think you can see shades of it in just the trailer alone. Regardless of Eisenberg's upcoming comic book role, THE DOUBLE looks like a really fun, engaging oddity of a film and I look forward to checking it out.

THE DOUBLE opens in the UK on April 4, 2014 and in limited theaters in the US on May 9, 2014.
