Paramount and Bad Robot seem to be having trouble figuring out when they should release the next installment in their sci-fi anthology CLOVERFIELD series. Their follow-up to 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, which was released in early 2016, was originally supposed to be out on February 24, 2017… then it got bumped to October 17… then it got pushed back to February 2, 2018. One month out from that date, we haven't seen any marketing for the film, and now we know why. It has been delayed again.

This untitled CLOVERFIELD movie, which was first announced under the title GOD PARTICLE, is now set to come out on April 20, 2018. Which puts it in direct competition with the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson kaiju video game adaptation RAMPAGE.

Like 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, the new entry in the CLOVERFIELD franchise was not written with the intention of it being a CLOVERFIELD movie. It was an original sci-fi spec script that is being dropped into the CLOVERFIELD world.

Directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung, the project formerly known as GOD PARTICLE stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl, and Chris O’Dowd. The story follows

the efforts of scientists aboard an international space station to tap into a new energy source — the mysterious “God Particle.” They inadvertently trigger catastrophic side effects.

If the April 20 release date sticks, we should start seeing some promotional materials soon.
