Nic Cage is excited about Nevaldine/Taylor’s Ghost Rider 2

June brought the very cool news that Mark Nevaldine and Brian Taylor would be helming the next GHOST RIDER picture, a very welcome change from Mark Steven Johnson indeed. But since they’re so outrageous and un-PC (check out our podcast with them for the proof), it’s kind of hard to gauge what their take on PG-13 material will resemble. (Let’s hope JONAH HEX, which they wrote, isn’t any indication.) At the very least, it should be interesting to find out.

MTV got a chance to talk with Johnny Blaze himself, Nic Cage, during some SORCEROR’S APPRENTICE business; they asked him to spill a little about the the demented duo of Nevaldine/Taylor.

“I’m very excited about those two. They’re originals, and they know how to make a movie look great, and they know how to use the camera. And I think they’ll have a fresh, a very fresh take on the character.”

As for whether or not this will be a sequel or reboot, Cage said “It’s a different trajectory, but it’s still the same guy.”

Hmm… Well, let’s hope it’s a very different trajectory, because the first trajectory took us straight into Suckville. I also hope Cage takes it down a notch, because while it’s not necessarily in the hierarchy of ridiculous Cage performances, his take on Johnny Blaze is pretty goofy.

David Goyer wrote the screenplay for GHOST RIDER 2, which doesn’t have a planned shooting schedule as of yet.
