Nicole Kidman to star in Destroyer from director of The Invitation

It's been great seeing more of Nicole Kidman in recent years, in addition to her Emmy-winning performance in HBO's Big Little Lies, Kidman has appeared in THE BEGUILED and LION, as well as the upcoming THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER and AQUAMAN. THR now reports that the actress will next star in DESTROYER, a crime-thriller set in Los Angeles which will be directed by Karyn Kusama (THE INVITATION).

Based on an original screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (THE INVITATION), the story will center on "LAPD detective Erin Bell (Kidman), who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a cult-like gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past." In a statement, producer Fred Berger said:

Phil and Matt have written one of the most compelling screenplays I’ve ever read, Nicole is at the top of her game — doing tremendously exciting work — and Karyn is one of the most assured voices working today. It’s a powerful combination, sure to produce an iconic character, and I feel lucky to be in their company.

I walked into THE INVITATION not knowing much about it and left feeling suitably impressed as well as creeped out, and DESTROYER certainly sounds as though it will be another tense ordeal. Nicole Kidman's next film, THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER, is set to hit theaters on October 27th.
