Today Fango posted a recent chat they had with Mike Wolfer of Avatar Press about one of the company’s upcoming titles based on the 1968 version of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD! “We just signed a deal with George Romero to do the first official NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD licensed comic,” says Wolfer. “The unique thing about this is that George is completely endorsing the project, and the story is written by John Russo, who co-scripted the the original movie. So the two powerhouses of the zombie genre are back together again. I’m serving as a scripter, taking John’s treatment and breaking it down into comic format.”
The comic will not be a straight adaptation of the film, however. Rather, Wolfer says that the three-issue series (which premieres in the fall) will be a prequel to the movie. Specifically, the events that led Ben to arriving at the farmhouse, and what happened at Beekman’s Diner. As an added bonus, August will see a special preview book released, complete with an eight-page standalone story, interviews and text. As for future plans for the license, Wolfer wouldn’t say much, other than they have “a whole lot of other things planned”. Could we possibly see a crossover? Avatar Press has done stuff involving Freddy, Jason and Leatherface, so you never know.
