Nightbooks: clip from Sam Raimi-produced Netflix film unleashes the Shredder

That creature you see in the thumbnail for the video embedded above is called the Shredder, and it’s featured in Brightburn director David Yarovesky’s upcoming horror fantasy film Nightbooks, which was produced by Sam Raimi and is now available to watch through the Netflix streaming service. Check out the clip to see how the Shredder enters the story, and if you like the look of Nightbooks head over to Netflix to see the full movie!

Nightbooks is based on a novel by J.A. White (pick up a copy at THIS LINK). Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis handled the screenplay adaptation. The film has the following synopsis:

Alex is a creative boy with a strong passion for writing scary stories. But when he’s labeled weird and rejected for what he likes, he swears he’ll never write again. That’s when an evil witch, captures him in her magical apartment in New York City and demands that he tell her a new tale every night if he wants to stay alive. Trapped inside with Lenore, the witch’s spiteful cat watching his every move, Alex meets Yasmin, another young prisoner who has learned how to survive the witch’s wicked whims. With Yasmin’s help, Alex must learn to embrace what makes him unique – his love for scary stories – and rewrite his own destiny to break them free.

Winslow Fegley, Lidya Jewett, and Krysten Ritter star.

Raimi produced the film alongside Mason Novick, Michelle Knudsen, and Romel Adam. Raimi’s long-time collaborator Robert Tapert served as an executive producer, as did Jeanette Volturno.

I watch everything Raimi is involved with, so I will be watching Nightbooks as soon as possible. The film may be aiming for viewers who are much younger than I am, but I remain loyal to Raimi regardless… and the Shredder has me intrigued.
