A reader over at AICN sent in a description of the transaction that took place betwen McDowell and the SAG host. Here are some of the highlights: Regarding “H2”; the host … couldn’t picture anyone else taking up the role [of Sam Loomis] besides him after the performance he gave in the first film, McDowell thanked him and told him “maybe you ought to tell that to the Weinsteins! We’re in the middle of negotiating right now!” He then riffed on the notorious hard-bargaining of the Weinstein Brothers, “Those f*ckers!” He then chuckled and said he was, of course, kidding and said that Zombie, whom he called an “amazing director” (he said this twice during the event), wanted him back…
After having Loomis meet his demise in the first film, it’s a wonder why he would be back, but of course, there has to be flashbacks to Michael’s life at the psychiatric ward, no? Apparently so… McDowell also had this to say about the script: He said all he knew was that the story supposedly takes place two months after the finale of the first film.
This confirms that a) Loomis may or may not be back, and b) H2 is not following in its predecessor’s footsteps by continuing the saga of that one deadly Halloween night. But two months later… that’s Christmas and New Years! Wait… could this be? Another holiday themed HALLOWEEN, where the holiday in question isn’t Halloween? Hmmmm… intriguing.
