Our very own JIMMYO has learned, while at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in L.A. last weekend
(READ HIS REPORT HERE), that there will be no sequel to this year’s MY BLOODY VALENTINE. Director Patrick Lussier
stated at the convention that Lionsgate has no interest in turning MBV
into a franchise.
This isn’t a gigantic surprise to me, nor is it the end of the world. It did pretty well ($71 million worldwide) for a flick of this sort, but at the end of the day even its 3-D angle didn’t quite elevate it beyond being just an “okay” movie. (My opinion, of course, but I thought it was a tad on the overhyped side; I certainly prefer the original in almost every way.) I guess Lionsgate is content to hang on to the considerable profits it raked in (its budget was only in the $15 million range) and make a few more Tyler Perry movies… Now that’s true horror.
I will miss Jaime King, however…
