No More Rogue?

It’s funny how sometimes movies come out in twos- usually in the same year, there’s always at least one type of movie that’s done twice- so you either have to pick one to watch, or watch em’ both and compare. Last year we had THE PRESTIGE and THE ILLUSIONIST as two magician movies, and this year it looked like we were gonna have two crocodile movies with this Friday’s PRIMEVAL for Hollywood Pictures, and Greg McLean’s ROGUE for Dimension Films… that is, until PRIMEVAL made it’s move to be released 4 months earlier than previously expected.

According to the Weinstein Co., ROGUE has been taken off the release schedule for the year… with no release date in site! Not that it’s too crazy of a move, and it likely has to do with how well PRIMEVAL does at the B.O.- if it does really well, I’m guessing we’ll see it sooner than later… if it bombs, we might end up seeing it on video. Only time will tell!

ROGUE’s plot has similarities to PRIMEVAL, as it goes a bit like this: An American travel writer working on a piece in the Australian outback puts him on the menu for an oversized crocodile who stalks the scribe on a river cruise. And by similarity, I mean that they both feature a crocodile, of course! It’s also set in a remote part of the world… what they should have done is a killer croc movie in the middle of New York, one that lives in the sewers… that’d be cool. Like CHUD 3: THE KILLER CROC or something like that. I’d be down.

Stick around for PRIMEVAL’s release, as it will likely have something to do with when- and if- ROGUE hits theaters… or goes straight to DVD. Oh, the anticipation!
