No Thing for Combs

Is there trouble in the sick, twisted paradise that is the longtime friendship between Stuart Gordon (RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND) and actor Jeffrey Combs? Well, not necessarily. But they don’t have to work on every project together, as evidenced by some interesting comments Combs made regarding Gordon’s new film, THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP. Seems as though Combs is opposed to a little bumpin’-n’-grindin’ on the set. (Appearing in a movie where a severed head goes down on a chick? Not a problem!)

“You know, Stuart approached me about that a while ago and wanted me to read it, and quite honestly, I opted out. It has a lot of sex… It’s kind of wall-to-wall,” Combs explained to Fangoria, “because the whole idea is that people get infected by having sex, and so everybody is doing it. And I just said, ‘Stuart, no, thank you,’ because I know how it breaks down and how it is on set, and I didn’t really want to be in that world.”

But Combs has his reasons, and they’re good ones. (I guess, I dunno, I’m not married…)

“Stuart was like, ‘Yeah, I know, being in bed with beautiful women all day, it sounds tough, and I went, ‘You know, Stuart, actually, it is. I’m married, and I don’t wanna do that.’ It’s not part of my world. It was just too much, it was like, ‘And then they’re writhing, and then they’re humping some more, and then they build to a climax, and then they climax, and sweat…” I wish him all the best with that one, but not every project’s right for me.”

It’s all good Jeffrey… Stuart, if you’re out there and looking for a man unafraid of the rigors of “writhing” and “humping” and “building to climaxes” with a hot babe while… a thing is on the doorstep, by all means, gimme a call.

And in case you’re wondering just what the hell this movie’s about, read on for some quotes from Gordon (as given to STYD) that provide a bit of an explanation:

“In our version it’s about a psychiatrist who gets this patient, a young girl who comes in, who he thinks has multiple personality disorder. He’s very intrigued by this girl, but he’s also very drawn to her. One of her personalities keeps trying to seduce him. Eventually he gives in and he’s having sex with her and he says to her, ‘Is this good for you?’ And she says, ‘Why don’t you see for yourself?’ Suddenly they switch bodies and he’s now in her body and she’s in his. This lasts for a few seconds and it’s like, what the hell happened? It turns out this girl is actually a sorceress and wants to take over his body and she is eventually going to become him. It’s one of… I won’t say it’s the only Lovecraft story that has a strong female character.”

I am totally that guy!!
