In an article about the slates of all of Hollywood’s major studios in Variety, I saw something quite interesting. Now it may not be accurate, since we haven’t heard anything like this before, but it’s not out of the realm of believability: On New Line Cinema’s list of upcoming films, they mention a Wesley Strick-directed “A Nightmare on Elm Street”.”
Now, we knew Strick had been hired to write the revamp of Freddy Krueger’s tale, but this is the first word of him directing it too… Is this info accurate, or did Variety get their wires crossed? I suppose we’ll find out soon enough. (In case you’re curious, Strick only has two directing credits: 1995’s THE TIE THAT BINDS and 2001’s HITCHED. He’s primarily known for writing CAPE FEAR, ARACHNOPHOBIA and DOOM. )
There are a few other intriguing titles in development/pre-production stages: for MGM, there’s Drew Goddard’s THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, and Aronofsky’s ROBOCOP; A Robert Zemeckis flick called MARS NEEDS MOMS; Ruben Fleischer’s ZOMBIELAND (which I told you about yesterday); Mark Neveldine/Brian Taylor’s JONAH HEX; Gore Verbinksi’s BIOSHOCK, and more! Perhaps most the most frightening prospect? ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 2… Yikes!
