Artificial Intelligence is at the forefront of many conversations these days, and it’s no surprise: it’s scary as hell. Most of us remember Skynet or the many other cinematic AI’s that have resulted in a very bleak future for humanity. It’s almost like no one took the warnings that have been given for decades. Now, Hot Spot is another post-AI film that shows us the dangers in ways that most people may not have thought about. This is one of the craziest films I’ve ever experienced and you can check out my review HERE.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Noomi Rapace, Agnieszka Smoczynska, and Andrzej Konopka about the film. Let me be perfectly clear: Hot Spot is a very confusing time at the movies and the filmmakers acknowledge that. It’s actually been interesting to read other people’s interpretations of what the film is even about. So it’s really fascinating to hear what they were able to latch onto as actors in the midst of all of this narrative confusion. Noomi was desperate to work with Agnieszka after seeing her film The Lure, so she seemed prepared for the weird and wild journey she would go on. I encourage anyone who’s seen the film to check out this full conversation, as I’m sure it’ll help you better understand the film. I know I did.
Hot Spot plot (say that ten times fast):
Set in a near-future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.
Hot Spot is playing in theaters for a limited time starting August 21st, 2026.
