Novelization of Star Wars: The Last Jedi to include Han Solo’s funeral

As STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI picked right up after the events of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, there wasn't much time to dwell on the loss of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), but the upcoming novelization of THE LAST JEDI will include some all-new material from the film, including Han's funeral. In the latest installment of The Star Wars Show, Rian Johnson spoke of his childhood love of movie novelizations, commenting that he would ride his bike to the grocery store to get the novels based on movies he enjoyed. Working with Jason Fry, Johnson was able to "talk through some interesting additional scenes from the film" and include "some of the fun stuff you can get into a novel that you can’t always get onto the screen."

"Rian Johnson and I had an amazing conversation," Jason Fry said. "We got to write entirely new scenes for the book: Han Solo’s funeral, Rose and Paige Tico together, and further explorations of the fascinating world of Canto Bight, to name just a few." I had hoped that we would have seen more of the fallout of Han's death in THE LAST JEDI, but I suppose we'll have to make due with its inclusion in THE LAST JEDI novel, which will be released on March 6th. This particular segment on The Star Wars Show also included a quick peek at a deleted scene from the film, in which Rey (Daisy Ridley) rushes towards a nearby village which she assumes is under attack, only to discover that the Caretakers of Ahch-To are having a lively party. The quick scene begins at 3:56 in the video, but here are a handful of screenshots.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is still playing in theaters.
