Obi-Wan Kenobi series: Indira Varma of Game of Thrones joins the cast

Once upon a time, the idea of a live-action Star Wars TV series might have been looked down upon, but The Mandalorian has proven that George Lucas' franchise can absolutely thrive on the small-screen. There are plenty of new Star Wars projects in the works for Disney+, but the one that I've been the most excited for is the Obi-Wan Kenobi series that will feature the return of Ewan McGregor as the Jedi Master.

With production on the Obi-Wan Kenobi series set to kick off this spring, Deadline has reported that Indira Varma has joined the cast. Details regarding who Varma will be playing are naturally being kept under wraps, but she's a fine addition to the production. Indira Varma is perhaps best known for playing Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones, but she's also known for her roles on Rome, Luther, and Carnival Row. In addition to Ewan McGregor and Indira Varma, the series will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. I'm pumped.

Not much is known about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, other than it will place place ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. "I'm really excited about it," McGregor told ET last September. "It's gonna be great, I think." While The Mandalorian will likely span multiple seasons, McGregor also claimed that he's not aware of any plans for a second season of the Obi-Wan Kenobi. "As I understand, it's a standalone season," he said. "We'll see. Who knows?" In addition to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, there's also several spin-offs of The Mandalorian in the works, including Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic, and The Book of Boba Fett, as well as Andor, a Rogue One prequel series, Leslye Headland's Acolyte, and a limited-series focusing on Lando Calrissian.
