To be perfectly honest, I don’t think this is brand new. At least, I don’t believe it is. That said, I’ve never seen it before, so hopefully I’m bringing you some fresh details on a project that’s somewhat under the radar now but should be a priority for movie geeks everywhere.
The official site for Working Title Films has an official synopsis for the Greg Mottola sci-fi/comedy PAUL, which stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. We’ve known that it’s about two fanboys who meet up with an alien after visiting Comic-Con, but little else has been revealed. Until now.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for the comedy adventure Paul as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever.
For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. For reasons unknown, the space-travelling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town—a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Collings (Frost).
Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.
There’s no shortage of awesome peeps in the flick; in addition to Rogen, Pegg and Frost are Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Blythe Danner, Joe Lo Truglio, John Carroll Lynch, David Koechner and Sigourney Weaver.
Principal photography on PAUL wrapped last September. No release date is planned, but evidently there’s going to be a panel for the film at this month’s Comic-Con, which makes perfect sense. Our guys on the scene will be sure to relay all the cool info when it occurs!
