Old Guy: Christoph Waltz to star in a contract killer action-comedy from Con Air director Simon West

Remember to consider people who are older than you are. Some can be dangerous, whether behind the wheel or holding a loaded gun. Such is the case with a new film called Old Guy, starring Christopher Waltz as an aging contract killer. The project, soon heading to the EFM market in Berlin, hails from Con Air and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider director Simon West. Greg Johnson (The Last Son) is writing the script, and it sounds like a doozy.

According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Old Guy finds Waltz playing Terry Eubanks, a senior contract killer who thinks he’s still the best in the business. Nearing the end of his tenure, Terry is overjoyed to learn The Company is willing to put him back in the field, but with a catch. He’s contracted to train a Gen Z newcomer named Wihlborg, a prodigy assassin with a chip on his shoulder. Per Deadline, the “mismatched pair is asked to eliminate top members of a competing crime syndicate and, in the process, uncover their employer’s true motive: removing the old guard in a complete takeover. However, The Company didn’t anticipate that Terry’s experience, coupled with the kid’s brilliance, would create an unlikely bond between the two, enabling them to turn it all back on The Company.”

“It’s very rare that a script like this one comes along,” said West. “When it does you have to grab it with both hands and don’t let it go until you find your perfect actor. I’ve wanted to work with Christoph Waltz for many years. He is one of the most versatile actors working today. I can’t wait to see him create yet another unique and iconic character.”

“Working with such an incredibly talented actor as two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz is a dream come true. He is a phenomenal performer and will brilliantly capture the spirit of the veteran contract killer who forms an unlikely bond with the plucky young upstart,” added Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser.

What do you think about the concept of Old Guy? Who would you pair with Waltz to play the Gen Z assassin? Noah Centineo? Please leave a suggestion or two in the comments.
