Adam Wingard’s A24 action horror film Onslaught unleashes a new trailer

Adam Wingard is returning to the kind of intense genre filmmaking that made him a fan favorite with You’re Next and The Guest. A24 has released a brand-new trailer for Onslaught, offering the biggest look yet at the filmmaker’s upcoming action horror thriller ahead of its September 4 theatrical release. Check it out in the embed above.

The film stars Adria Arjona (Hit Man) as a former Army sniper forced back into action after a squad of genetically engineered super soldiers escapes from a secret military facility and threatens her family.

What is Onslaught about?

Here’s the official synopsis:

When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.

Early plot details revealed that Arjona plays a mother living in a trailer park who must rely on a very dangerous set of skills after crossing paths with a terrifying military experiment.

Who stars in Onslaught?

Alongside Arjona, the film features an impressive ensemble that includes:

  • Dan Stevens (The Guest, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire)
  • Drew Starkey (Outer Banks)
  • Michael Biehn (The Terminator)
  • Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong)
  • Reginald VelJohnson (Die Hard)
  • Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric)
  • UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira

Pereira reportedly brings many of his real-world combat skills to the role. Stevens plays a German scientist involved with the military experiments, while Hall portrays one of his colleagues. Biehn plays the leader of an elite mercenary team tasked with containing the escaped super soldiers. VelJohnson and Wareheim portray members of the trailer park community caught in the middle of the chaos.

Adam Wingard reunites with Simon Barrett

Onslaught reunites Wingard with longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, who previously worked with the director on You’re Next, The Guest, A Horrible Way to Die, Blair Witch, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

The film is co-financed by A24 and Lyrical Media, with A24 handling worldwide distribution. Producers include Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, Wingard, Barrett, Jeremy Platt, and Alexander Black.

The film has earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, some gore, sexual material/nudity, and language, reinforcing that Wingard isn’t pulling any punches with this return to his horror roots.

What did you think of the new trailer? Does Onslaught look like Adam Wingard’s best movie since The Guest? Let us know in the comments.
