Christopher Nolan has dropped another bomb on those looking forward to his next major feature film, Oppenheimer: Josh Hartnett. According to Deadline, the actor (Penny Dreadful, 30 Days of Night, The Faculty) is joining the cast, which already includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Cillian Murphy, who stars as J. Robert Oppenheimer. Say it with me, folks. Hot damn! That’s a hell of a lineup.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer movie will be the filmmaker’s first directorial effort since 2020’s Tenet. The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. In addition to directing the feature, Nolan will also write the script and produce alongside Emma Thomas and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven. Oppenheimer is set to explode in theaters on July 23, 2023, roughly two weeks before the anniversary of the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima.

Details about who Hartnett will play in Nolan’s Oppenheimer movie are unknown at this time. In addition to starring in recent TV series like Penny Dreadful, Paradise Lost, and Die Hart, Hartnett appeared in Guy Ritchie’s Wrath of Man as a character named Boy Sweat Dave. As to how Dave got that name, I have no idea. I’m sure it’s a colorful story, though. Hartnett will soon team with Ritchie for another roller coaster ride of attitude and action with Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre. In addition to Jason Statham, Ritchie’s Operation Fortune also stars Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Bugzy Malone, Cary Elwes, and Hugh Grant. In the film, Statham stars as super-spy Orson Fortune, who must stop a weapons sale involving billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Grant). The mission to save the world finds Fortune reluctantly teamed with some of the world’s best operatives (Plaza, Elwes, Malone) and Hollywood’s biggest movie star Danny Francesco (Hartnett).
