Oscar Isaac cast as the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse

Oscar Isaac is not going to be content to have a role in one massive franchise as he will add super-villain to his resume. On the heels of co-starring in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS, we have now learned that the actor will play the title role in 2016’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

Teased at the end of this summer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, Apocalypse is a powerful mutant who first appeared in ancient Egypt and will be the primary antagonist in the 1980s set X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The film is set to feature the return of Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence amongst several other potential debuts for characters like Cyclops and Jean Grey. Isaac is the first new cast member announced for the sequel.

Bryan Singer recently hinted that we will be seeing a much different scale out of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, one which will live up to the subtitle.

“‘Apocalypse’ will have more of the mass destruction that ‘X-Men’ films, to date, have not relied upon,” he recently said. “There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.”

Oscar Isaac has proven himself a talented performer in movies like INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS and DRIVE. While STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS is his highest profile role to date, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will not be far behind. If anything, the part of Apocalypse may be his biggest part of his career.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is slated to open on May 27, 2016.
