Oscar Isaac says Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is shocking, unique & visceral

Sure, 2020 is full of many highly anticipated films, but the one which has had my attention from the day it was first announced is Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune." I've been a fan of everything Villeneuve has done and I'm pumped to see how the director tackles this sprawling sci-fi epic. The adaptation features quite the all-star cast, which includes Timothée Chalamet's (THE KING) as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson (DOCTOR SLEEP) as Lady Jessica, and Oscar Isaac (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER) as Duke Leto Atreides.

Oscar Isaac recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, but he spilled a little about DUNE as well, which he teased is quite different from the previous filmed takes on Herbert's novel.

It’s just a wholly, wholly different thing. I couldn’t imagine anyone more suited for the tone of the original Frank Herbert novels than Denis. There are some things that are — for lack of a better word — nightmarish about what you see… There’s just this kind of brutalist element to it. It’s shocking. It’s scary. It’s very visceral. And I know that definitely between Denis and myself and Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson as the family unit, we really searched for the emotion of it. I’m beyond myself with excitement. I think it’s good to feel cool, unique, and special.

I can't wait until we finally get a look at this thing. I'm prepared to have my mind blown. I know, I know, don't get too hyped, Kevin. In addition to Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac, DUNE also stars Stellan Skarsgard (THOR) as the villainous Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista (BLADE RUNNER 2049) as his sadistic nephew, Glossu "Beast" Rabban, Charlotte Rampling (RED SPARROW) as the Reverend Mother Mohiam, the emperor's truthsayer, Josh Brolin (AVENGERS: ENDGAME) as Gurney Halleck, a troubadour-swordsman, Javier Bardem (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES) as Stilgar, the leader of the Fremen,  Zendaya (SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME) as Chani, a Fremen who becomes a love interest to Paul Atreides, Jason Momoa (AQUAMAN) as Duncan Idaho, a swordmaster in the house of Atreides, and David Dastmalchian (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP) as Piter De Vries, a twisted Mentat.

DUNE is slated for a December 18, 2020 release, but Oscar Isaac's other sci-fi blockbuster, STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, will be hitting theaters on December 20th.
