Overture goes Crazy

If you’ve been sitting around the house for weeks, distraught over the idea that a remake of THE CRAZIES is in the works, but not knowing the status of the project because we haven’t heard squat about it since May, then this news should at least get you to shower again and maybe eat something more than mayonnaise and Twinkies.

According to Variety, Overture Films has taken over the producing / distribution reigns of the George A. Romero remake, which was previously set up over at Rogue Pictures and Paramount. I don’t know if that means we can kiss the theatrical release goodbye (I’ve never even heard of Overture Films before!), or it if will lead to a wider distribution through another production powerhouse.

Breck Eisner is still on board to direct, they’re still using the script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar, and Romero is still executive producing. The only big change, really, is who’s supplying the money to get this puppy made…

With production set to start early next year, I’d say they better get cracking on casting this beast, or it’s gonna be a remake featuring nobody and then we’ll all go a little crazy! At the very least, it should be interesting to see where this project goes. Now that you’ve had a bite, you can go back to being distraugt, though you might want to lay off the Twinkies. And the mayo.
