P2 a War Zone

When I reported a few weeks back that the upcoming PUNISHER movie was going to be subtitled WELCOME BACK FRANK (check it out HERE), I thought to myself ‘Geez, what a lame-ass title’. Sure, it’s based on the comic’s original title, but that doesn’t make it any less stupid! Well I’m happy to report I wasn’t the only one who thought the title sucked, as Lionsgate announced today that the new PUNISHER has a new title.

It’s now called THE PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, and if there has to be a subtitle, it may as well be that! Better than WELCOME BACK FRANK (not that that was hard to do), at least the title promises lots of R rated gun play, and that’s all we’re really asking for in a PUNISHER movie. Plus, it too was taken for a string of comics, back from the time when The Punisher really didn’t give a f*ck, and was an action hero more than a loner vigilante. Could this be a sign of things to come with the new film?

Ray Stevenson is set to play the new PUNISHER, which isn’t even really a sequel to the 2004 film, but more like a different take on the PUNISHER universe. Or at least, that’s what they’ve been saying. Maybe they’ll call it a sequel the closer it gets to it’s release date…
