According to Variety, the great Al Pacino has agreed to star in the HBO telepic about the life and times of Dr. Kevorkian, with director Barry Levinson at the helm! Holy frijoles, this thing could be epic! Even if it is essentially made for TV… Pacino has the look of Kevorkian down already–it’s those damn eyes. Give him some white harid and BAM! you have Kevorkian in a nut-shell.
Specifically, the bio-pic will revolve around Kevorkian’s construction of his infamous “Mercy Machine,” his first assisted suicide in the early 1990s and the resulting media frenzy. Kevorkian was convicted of second-degree murder in 1999 as a result of his involvement in an assisted suicide that was videotaped and later shown on TV. He was released from prison in 2007.
It’s had to tell at this point if Levinson and Pacino will portray Kevorkian as a monster or as a merciful doctor. Sure, this dude was no Ted Bundy, but he’s still a serial killer in many people’s eyes. This may change some minds… or keep them going on the same track.
Stick around on the Dr. Death bio-pic as we hear it!
