Last month, Eric clued you all in on the plot details for SHROOMS director Paddy Breathnach’s (above) upcoming flick RED MIST (here). The details seem like your basic possessed body fare, however it does feature a dead sexy duo of hotties in the shapely forms of Arielle Kebbel (below) and Sarah Carter. Breathnach sat down with Fango recently and expressed his feelings on MIST as well as his affinity for Ms. Kebbel (I think we all have an affinity for her).
Regarding the commencement of production, Breathnach, oh, I’m just going to call him Paddy from here on, said: “It has been hard to film all the setpiece killings and bloody stunts on such a tight schedule. Yet SHROOMS was very much a constant-threat movie. This is totally different. I liked the idea of having fun with its uncanny possession aspects.”
When the casting of Kebbel came up, Paddy cited his love of J-horror cinema as playing a big influence in handing her the part (Kebbel starred in two J-brand flicks: THE GRUDGE 2 and the A TALE OF TWO SISTERS remake, THE UNINVITED). “My love of Asian horror cinema is well known,” he explained, “and there’s a touch of that atmosphere in RED MIST, if not as pronounced as it was in SHROOMS. Arielle is at the top of her game right now, and brings the right edge to her role of a lonely medical student forced to take a life rather than save it.”
Ms. Kebbel herself even chimed in: “Paddy didn’t tell me about his Asian bent. But I was reminded of THE GRUDGE 2 at certain points when watching the monitor playbacks. I thought it was just me, so I didn’t want to say anything! The gradual darkening of the plot, the sterility of the images, the classy visual quality—it was all part of his artistic plan.”
Hopefully RED MIST won’t suck ass like GRUDGE 2 (honestly I didn’t care for part 1 either). With a little luck o’ the Irish on his side, I think Paddy will be able to deliver the goods. We’ll keep you updated on any further info. MIST is set to release some time in 2009.
