I spend terrifying nights, awake and alone, scribbling endless looping calculations, all in the hopes of discovering why Gus Van Sant made FINDING FORRESTER and GOOD WILL HUNTING. Not that they’re bad films, but that they just don’t fit in with the rest of his career. Almost his entire filmography is a vanguard testament to a director making films on his own terms. It’s rare that he doesn’t experiment. His latest foray into youthful angst once again features non-actors (like his Palme d’Or winning ELEPHANT) and is about a young skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard. The film is set in Van Sant’s current home of Portland, Oregon and is based on the novel by Blake Nelson. PARANOID PARK premiered at last year’s Cannes film festival and won the special 60th anniversary prize and now AICN has an exclusive look at the film’s one-sheet. Click on the shadowy skateboarder to see one of the better haircuts I’ve seen in a while.
