Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin trailer unveiled, release date announced

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, Underwater director Will Eubank’s reboot of the Paranormal Activity franchise, has been described as an “unexpected retooling” of the concept, and trailer has arrived online to give us an idea of how this one is going to stand out from the pack. Along with the trailer comes the announcement that Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is going to be available to watch through the Paramount Plus streaming service as of October 29th. So a lot of Paramount Plus subscribers are probably going to be spending their Halloween with this movie.

Plot details on Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin are being kept under wraps, but we do know that the movie stars Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert, and Henry Ayres-Brown. Franchise creator Oren Peli produced the film with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. Screenwriter Christopher Landon served as executive producer alongside Steven Schneider and Jenny Hinkey. Landon previously wrote the second, third, and fourth Paranormal Activity films, and also wrote and directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

I’ve only seen half of this franchise, but the trailer does make the new film look different from the installments I have seen. While the found footage style is still in play for at least part of the movie, it appears that it’s going to be mixed with some traditionally shot footage. That’s a bonus as far as I’m concerned, and so is the shot of a dangerous individual carrying a pitchfork.

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin has been rated R for “violence and bloody images, and language throughout“. In addition to this film, Paramount Plus will also be releasing a documentary on the Paranormal Activity franchise in October.
