Patrick Brice to adapt There’s Someone Inside Your House novel for Netflix

I don't know about you, but most nights I could be categorized as a very light sleeper. For real, if a mouse so much as farts, I hear it, and wake up. This can lead to sleep deprivation, auditory hallucinations, and other happenings that serve to warp the mind. On the plus side, my propensity to wake at the sound of almost nothing will assuredly come in handy if say, a killer were to enter my home. If that were to happen, I'd make a quiet bee-line for the nearest baseball bat, smart phone in hand, and would ready myself to pounce on whomever would be foolish enough to enter my home unannounced. By now, you're probably wondering, "What the hell does this have to do with anything, Steve?" Well, you try coming up with an original way of introducing the news that CREEPER helmer Patrick Brice is set to direct THERE'S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE for Netflix and see how well you fare.

Adapted from the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Stephanie Perkins, There's Someone Inside Your House tells the story of Makani Young, an adolescent still adjusting to her new life in the small town of Osborne, one year after her parents sent her away from Hawaii to live with her grandmother in rural Nebraska. Though, she befriends a few friends and even flirts with a romantic interest at Osborne High, she is still haunted by the secrets of her past life. Sometime later, the students at her school die in a series of gruesome murders. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, the dark secrets of the past will finally be revealed.

According to Deadline, who exclusively broke the story this afternoon, Brice's version is described as a combination of two different beloved teenage genres: the slashers that came to prominence in the ’80s and ’90s and the character-driven coming of age classics a la John Hughes’ films and American Graffiti. Meanwhile, SHAZAM! screenwriter Henry Gayden wrote the adaptation, which is being produced by Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.

Brice's most recent directorial outing, CORPORATE ANIMALS, stars Demi Moore (NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, STRIPTEASE) and Ed Helms (TAG, THE HANGOVER), in a story about Lucy (Demi Moore), the egotistical megalomaniac CEO of Incredible Edibles, America's premier provider of edible cutlery. In her infinite wisdom, Lucy leads her staff including her long-suffering assistants, Freddie (Karan Soni) and Jess (Jessica Williams), on a corporate team-building caving weekend to New Mexico. When disaster strikes, not even their useless guide, Brandon (Ed Helms), can save them. Trapped underground by a cave-in, this mismatched and disgruntled group must pull together in order to survive.
