Paul Bettany compares Solo: A Star Wars Story to a gangster movie

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI was released in theaters just days ago, but another STAR WARS film is already on the horizon. Lucasfilms' second STAR WARS spin-off, SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, is a little over five months away, but so far we've seen very little from the film in terms of official releases. It's logical to assume that the studio is simply holding off until THE LAST JEDI hype cools down, and I'm sure the reshoots have taken up a lot of their time, but come on, give us a photo of the cast in costume at the very least! We got to see the cast of ROGUE ONE almost a year and a half before that film was released. While we await our first real look at the spin-off, one actor has teased about his experiences on the set.

Paul Bettany joined the cast of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY after Ron Howard took over, reportedly stepping into the role vacated by Michael K. Williams, who unfortunately couldn't return for reshoots, and while speaking with Total Film, Bettany compared the film, at least on one level, to a gangster movie.

It's Han Solo's story, and of course his story would be a caper. On one level it's a gangster movie. That's really interesting, because it's within the canon but really different. It's f**king Han Solo!

Hey, Solo. Go home and get your f**king shine-box. Paul Bettany also gave a small hint as to who his character is while describing a day on the set. "Suddenly, I'm an intergalactic gangster and I'm walking down some stairs and an R2 unit goes by with some champagne," Bettany said, "and I'm like… [drops jaw] I had that feeling that I hadn't had since I was first on a film set – I was a little boy doing the best job in the world." The actor also praised Ron Howard's work on the film and added that the director "reshot a lot more than was originally intended." In addition to Bettany, SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY also stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY is still slated for a May 25, 2018 release.
