Paul Thomas Anderson is set to film his next movie in the summer of 2023

In the big business of film, studios make announcements for television projects and sequels in big franchises, as well as reboots, retools, and remakes. However, there are those few notable auteurs that people never quite know what their next project will be. For example, there has been a lot of speculation on what the final Quentin Tarantino could possibly entail, including genre or possible plots — like the semi-popular fan theory of a Kill Bill sequel involving Vivica Fox’s character’s daughter hunting The Bride after witnessing the death of her mom, called Kill Beatrix. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the most prestigious filmmakers of the modern era, having made such poignant Academy-nominated films like There Will Be Blood and Phantom Thread. The Film Stage is reporting that the director is perhaps gearing up to film his next movie this coming summer. The only lead to any details is a notice of an casting call from the site, Actor’s Access.

The headline for the notice reads “Untitled CK/PTA Studio Feature Film,” which refers to both Paul Thomas Anderson and casting director Cassandra Kulukundis. The role in question is calling for “a 15-to-16-year-old female of mixed ethnicity who is ‘physically athletic and excels at Martial Arts.'” The notice also says that the shoot date is scheduled for July 2023 in Los Angeles.

While the film has not yet been revealed, Anderson was said to have been developing a 1940s Jazz film “capturing the “Little Harlem” area of the city, specifically in South Central around Hotel Dunbar.” Last year, Denzel Washington and Anderson were expressing their admiration for each other during their press tours for The Tragedy of Macbeth and Licorice Pizza. Denzel was explaining, “I’ve talked to one or two or three of the top directors, the directors I want to work with. I spent a wonderful day with Paul Thomas Anderson and his family.” Anderson would return the love by saying, “I have a Denzel Washington fascination at the moment. That would be so exciting, and I’ll get to it.”
